The library was built for learning, and the tree house was built for contact with nature. With the help of Solarban 90 Glass, the new library at the University of Monterey in Mexico combines the strengths of both buildings and is awarded an honorary award by the American Library Association (ALA) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Pablo Savid-Buteler, the project's lead architect, LEED-certified expert and managing director of the Boston Sasaki Association, said: "We hope that this library is like a tree house in the middle of the campus forest." Under the guidance of this design concept, The architect designed a multi-faceted, multi-layered glass wall structure that towers over the crown of the school to provide unobstructed views of Monterrey and its majestic mountain views.

Based on the original library structure of the school, the new student center has a bookstore, coffee shop and canteen. The top floor of the building has a spacious open deck overlooking the stunning views of Saddle Hill in Cerro de le Silla. There is a four-layer learning space between the ground floor and the top floor, the technology and collaborative learning area is on the lower floor, and the area near the top floor is available to people who need to study quietly.

The huge windows from the top to the bottom are made up of Vitro's Solarban 90 solar control glass and Low-E glass. The huge glass structure is conducive to the internal activities of the library and can be used as a beacon for the campus center. Solarban 90 glass products are the world's first four-layer silver-plated glass product, which has both beautiful and transparent materials and excellent solar control.

Solarban 90 glass has a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23 and a visible light transmission (VLT) of 51%. The resulting light-solar heat gain coefficient (LSG) is 2.22 compared to the two figures. This helps to optimize library solar performance and increase daylighting rates, thereby reducing the need for artificial lighting and air conditioning. These two major demands account for more than 65% of the energy consumption of most commercial buildings.

The ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards are awarded every two years to recognize achievements in interior design aesthetics, creativity and functionality. The main library of Monterrey University of Technology was awarded the University of the Interior Library Award in 2018.

With 31 campuses in 25 cities, Monterrey University of Technology is Mexico's largest university system and one of the top five universities in Latin America, with the top 200 in the world.
